✨New Year, New You!✨
Hey there!
I’m hoping your New Year is off to a good start already!
If you know me, you know I’m fairly obsessed with how music affects our brains, and vice versa!
I love this particular Ted-Ed video about how learning to play an instrument affects your entire brain and encourages whole brain learning (I remember seeing it many times over the years since it came out in 2014, but honestly the information is always more relevant every time I see it. Plus it’s under 3 mins👍).
Learning an instrument is a great way to challenge your sense of timing and fine motor skills. Playing music with even just one other person increases your sense of rhythm and flow, spacial awareness, emotional nuance, and so much more. And the best part is music helps us to continuously transfer those subtle nuances to all other aspects of our lives. It’s really the gift that keeps on giving!
It’s always tough starting something new, so when I start to feel intimidated by my own goals and dreams, I try to think that this is my brain’s natural response to fear and in order to forge new neurological pathways, I sometimes have to push myself out of my comfort zone. Usually, the effort is worth it, and I come out through it feeling grateful and hopeful.
With the close of January soon approaching, I’m feeling pretty good about what lies ahead and I hope you’re feeling the same, too! Thank you for your time and energy!
Sincerely,
Jenny
